However, despite of several empirical evidences, working condition and employee’s satisfaction issues are still unsolved in context of Nepalese banking industry. So, determining the relationship between working condition dimensions with job satisfaction of employees has always been a crucial issue for every Nepalese commercial bank. Therefore, this study attempts to analyze the impact of working condition on employee satisfaction of Nepalese commercial banks.
Job satisfaction as a pleasurable or positive emotional state that is related to the work that individual performs, the attitude of worker toward job, rewards, social, organizational and physical characteristics of the environment in which one performs in working activities. Furthermore, job satisfaction is a pleasant or positive response to the individual's work. Job satisfaction stems from the perception that an employee has about their job and what receives related with the work that is performed and the working condition.
Banking services has been chosen as the object of study for the reason that, owing to ever-increasing competition within banking services, in terms of both costs and banking products. Working condition is playing a vital role in management, since it is widely assumed and assessed to determine overall employee’s satisfaction. Banking industry is realizing the significance of employees-centered philosophies and is turning to quality management approaches to help managing their businesses.
This study examines impact of work condition on job satisfaction of employees. Factors affecting job satisfaction are namely promotion, salary, working condition, job security, supervisory role and hours of work in the context of Nepalese Commercial Banks.
The primary source of data is used to assess the opinion of customers with respect to working condition and its impact on employee’s job satisfaction in Nepalese commercial banks. The survey is based on 200 respondents from 20 commercial banks in Nepal. The questions were asked in the form multiple choice and Likert scale questions. The Likert scale questions of different variables on promotion, salary, working condition, job security, supervisory role, hours of work and job satisfaction of employees were measured in 5-point scale. The weighted mean of each variable were used to examine the relationship of working condition and job satisfaction. For the fact finding of the study primary data was analyzed by using percentage, frequency distribution and methods such as descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and regression analysis.
The results of the study show that good working condition has positive impact with employee job satisfaction and employee’s performance in the Nepalese commercial banks. The impact of nature of work, working hours, relationship with co-workers, working condition and motivation with job satisfaction of employees and employee’s performance is positive. Whereas stress has negative relationship with job satisfaction of employees and employee’s performance.
Recommendations are given on the basis of the findings of the study. The major conclusions of the study are that most of the variables of working condition have positive relation with employee job satisfaction and employee’s performance. Increasing in stress has negative relationship with job satisfaction and employee’s performance in Nepalese commercial banks. The major determining variables for job satisfaction in Nepalese commercial bank are found to be salary, promotion practices, supervisory role and physical working condition. If commercial banks of Nepal have good working condition provided to employees in terms of nature of work, working hours, relationship with co-workers, working condition motivation and less stress of work then level of working condition would be increased which ultimately leads to employee job satisfaction.
