Title : Impact of merger and acquisition on job satisfaction and job security of employees working in Nepalese commercial banks Material Type: printed text Authors: Pokharel Sabita, Author Publication Date: 2017 Pagination: 108p. Size: GRP/Thesis Accompanying material: 9/B Languages : English Descriptors: merger and acquisition Class number: 338.830 Abstract: Merger and acquisitions have become a key part of many corporate growth strategies (Cocheo, 2008 and Rosta, 2008). Banks are involved in M&A in order to reduce risks and increase returns and geographic diversification, which are expanding operations into multiple locations used to obtain greater market power. The profitability and efficiency of any bank depend upon the employee performance and the employee performance is depending upon their job satisfaction. The success or failure of M&A can be attributed in part to the behavior of the affected employees (Appelbaumet al., 2007). This is because the advent of M&A in the banking sector have created structural changes at the organizational level thereby leading to restructuring and downsizing processes in order to cope with the dynamic pressures of globalization and the importance of managing people at work and in particular planning and managing of their careers (Appelbaum et al., 2007).

Data were collected using well formulated questionnaires. The questionnaires were self-adjusted, validated and pre-tested. The respondents represent employees of 13 commercial banks of Nepal and total of 200 questionnaires were collected.
The mean values of JSAT, JSEC, SAC, WRC, PER, SUP and TND of non merged banks are better than merged bank respondents. The results show that t-statistics are significant for job satisfaction, job security and salary and compensation. However, the results show that there is no difference between merged and non-merged banks level of working condition, performance appraisal supervision and training and development. From the analysis, salary and compensation, working condition, performance appraisal, supervision, training and development and merger and acquisition are positively correlated with job satisfaction. It indicates that higher the salary and compensation, working condition, performance appraisal, supervision, training and development and merger and acquisition, higher would be job satisfaction. The result also shows that salary and compensation, working condition, performance appraisal, supervision, training and development and merger and acquisition are positively correlated to job security.
The study concludes that the study shows significant differences between the level of employee job satisfaction, job security and salary and compensation of merged and non-merged banks. It is found that employees of non-merged banks are more satisfied, perceive higher level of job security and are enjoying higher level of salary and compensation in comparison with the employees of merged banks.
