Commercial banks just like any other financial institutions, accounts for the large percentage of the world’s lending sector hence have a critical role to playing the economics of every country and the world’s economy at large. The accomplishment or disaster of the firm depends on its employee performance. Hence, top management should realize the importance of investing in training for the sake of improving employee performance. This research study will therefore focus on the influence of employee training on the employee motivation of the commercial banks in Nepal. Those included in the study were the top level management, middle level employees and the junior employees of Nepalese commercial banks. Employee training has been viewed as a tool for better productivity, general workforce skill development and motivation.
The relationship between training and employee motivation has been widely analyzed. Employee motivation is selected as dependent variable. Training design, delivery style, training environment, gender and position the independent variables. The major purpose of this study is to identify the impact of training determinants on employee motivation in Nepalese commercial banks. The study has the following specific objectives is to analyze the impact of training design in determining the employee motivation, to evaluate the effect of training delivery style on employee motivation, to examine the relationship between training environment on employee motivation in Nepalese commercial banks.
The primary source of data is used to assess the opinion of the employees with respect to training and motivation to analyze the employees with respect to training to analyze the employee motivation in Nepalese commercial banks. The survey is based on 170 respondents from 20 commercial banks. The questions were asked in the form of Yes/No, Rank based and Likert scale questions. The Likert scale questions of different variables on training were measured in percent point scale. The proxies of training are training design, delivery style and training environment. The weighted mean of the each variable used to examine the relationship of training variables with employee motivation. For the fact finding of the study primary data was analyzed by using percentage frequency distribution and methods such as descriptive analysis, correlation analysis, independent sample t-test analysis and regression analysis.
The result shows that training design, delivery style and training environment has positive relation with employee motivation in the Nepalese commercial banks.It indicates thatbetter the design of training, delivery style and training environment, higher would be the employee motivation. The beta coefficient is significant for training design, delivery style, training environment and position. The study reveals thatthere is no difference in perception of employee satisfaction through training on basis of gender. However,there is difference in perception of employee satisfaction through training on basis of level of employee. Managerial level of employees are more satisfied than non-managerial level of employee.The study also reveals that there is no regular schedule of the training in banking industry.
Recommendations are given on the basis of the findings of the study. The major conclusions of the study are that all the variables of training have positive relation with employee motivation. If the Nepalese commercial bank has good training in the form training design, delivery style and training environment it will tends to increase employee motivation.The more the bank focuses on the variable of training it leads to motivate the employee toward their job and the bank.
