There are numerous empirical evidences of developed countries that work life balance has significant impact on the improving the employee job satisfaction and employee performance of commercial banks. However, despite of several empirical evidences, work life balance issues are still unsolved in context of Nepalese banking industry. So, determining the strength of work life balance as well as its impact on the employee job satisfaction and employee performance of commercial banks has always been a crucial issue for every Nepalese commercial bank. Therefore, this study attempts the analysis of work life balance policies and its impact on employee job satisfaction and employee performance of Nepalese commercial banks.
The relationship between work life balance and employee job satisfaction and employee performance has been widely analyzed. Employee job satisfaction and employee performance are selected as employee outcomes and these are the dependent variables. Flexible policy, welfare policy, leave provision and job design are the independent work life balance policies variables. The main objective of the study is to examine the impact of work life balance on employee job satisfaction and employee performance in banking sector of Nepal. The specific objectives are to understand the concept of work life balance, to analyze the relationship between work life balance and job satisfaction, to determine the degree of effect on each dimension of work life balance on the employee’s work performance, to assess whether flexible work practices, leave provisions, family welfare policies and job design influence employee’s job satisfaction and performance in Nepalese Commercial Banks, to identify which factor of work life balance have more impact on employee job satisfaction and performance in Nepalese Banking Sector.
The primary source of data is used to assess the opinion of employees with respect to work life balance on employee job satisfaction and employee performance in Nepalese commercial banks. The survey is based on 206 respondents from 25 commercial banks in Nepal. The questions were asked in the form of Likert scale questions. The Likert scale questions of different variables on work life balance, employee job satisfaction and employee performance were measured in 5 point scale. The dimensions of work life balance are flexible policy, welfare policy, leave provision and job design. The weighted mean of each variable were used to examine the relationship of work life balance, employee job satisfaction and employee performance. For the fact finding of the study primary data was analyzed by using percentage frequency distribution and methods such as descriptive analysis, correlation analysis, and regression analysis.
The results of the study shows that work life balance have positive impact with employee job satisfaction and employee performance in the Nepalese commercial banks. The impacts of flexible policy, welfare policy, leave provision and job designer positively significant with employee job satisfaction. The impacts of flexible policy, welfare policy, leave provision and job designer positively significant with employee performance.
Recommendations are given on the basis of the findings of the study. The major conclusions of the study are that all the variables of work life balance have positive relation with employee job satisfaction and employee performance. If the Nepalese commercial bank has good work life balance in the form of flexible policy, welfare policy, leave provision and job design it will tend to increase employee job satisfaction and employee performance. The more the bank focuses on the factors of work life balance it leads to motivate the employee toward their job and in turn increases the productivity of the organizations.
