Social means human society, as interference of people & the groups and word networking is the medium of expressions. Most of the forms of social networking site are not digital. It generates a large number of innovations and social networking site is one of the biggest inventions of technology, which is now most popular and widely used. Social networking site is defined as technologies that made social communication easy and enable discussions among its participant. The word social media means a web-based mobile application that allows people or companies to make, interact with, and share new user-generated or current material, in digital environment. Students are consumers and producers of media and social web including Facebook, twitter, blogs, smart phones, and text messaging, most students increasingly live in a world where information is access to communication technologies.
This study investigates the impact of social networking site on the academic performance of student in Kathmandu. The study has employed descriptive and causal comparative research design to estimate the relationship between dependent variable such as academic performance with independent variables (time spent, student addictiveness, use of social networking site for communication and educational use of social networking site). The study is based on primary sources of data. The primary data are used to extract the information from the students regarding the perception impact of social networking site on the academic performance of student. Different students were selected for the study and total of 250 questionnaires were collected. To achieve the purpose of the study structured questionnaire was prepared.
The study shows that there is a negative relationship between time spent on social networking sites and student academic performance. It indicates that higher the amount of time spent on social networking sites, lower would be the student academic performance. The result also shows that student addictiveness is negatively related to the academic performance. It indicates that higher level of addictiveness towards the social networking sites, lower would be the student academic performance. However, the study shows that use of SNS for communication and educational use of social networking sites are positively related to the student academic performance. It reveals that higher level of communication with peers and faculties through social networking

sites, higher would be the academic performance. Similarly, the result indicates that higher the level of educational use of social networking sites, higher would be the student academic performance. The regression results also show that use of SNS for communication and educational use of social networking site have positive impact on academic performance. However, time spent on social networking sites and addictiveness have negative impact on academic performance.
