It has become important issue for both employers and employees of the organization. The different types of work life balance programs like flexible working schedule, compressed work weeks, telecommuting, and job sharing onsite child care facilities provide benefits to both employer and employee. The employees who are more satisfied can manage their work and family life more easily and this result may provide the higher productivity, better performance, high job satisfaction, commitment, and loyalty towards work. If the employees are more satisfied, job turnover and absenteeism may reduce from the organization.
The relationship of flexible work policy, welfare policy, leave provision, job design and work-family conflict with employee performance and job commitment has been widely analyzed. Employee performance and job commitment are selected as outcomes and these are the dependent variables. Flexible work policies, welfare policy, leave provision, job design and work-family conflicts are independent variables. The major objective of the study is to examine the relationship between work life balance,employee performance and job commitment in Nepalese commercial banks. The other specific objectives are to analyze the perception of employees on work life balance, to examine the relationship of work life balance on employee productivity, to determine the impact of work life balance on employee productivity, to estimate the most influencing factor of work life balance having the greater influence on employee productivity and to examine the role of gender and family structure in employee productivity through work life balance in case of Nepalese commercial banks.
The primary source of data is used to assess the opinion of employees with respect to flexible work policy, welfare policy, leave provision, job design, work-family conflict, employee performance and job commitment in Nepalese commercial banks. The survey is based on 196 respondents from 23 commercial banks in Nepal. The questions were asked in the form of 5-pointLikert scale. The Likert scale questions of different variables on flexible work policy, welfare policy, leave provision, job design, work-family conflict, employee performance and job commitment were measured in 5-point scale. The weighted average mean of the each variable were used to examine the relationship of flexible work policy, welfare policy, leave provision, job design and work-family conflict with employee performance and job commitment. For the fact findings of the study primary data was analyzed by using percentage, frequency distribution, correlation analysis and regression analysis.
The result of the study shows that flexible work policy, welfare policy, leaves provision, job design, work-family conflict has positive relationship with employee performance and job commitment. The impact of flexible work policy, welfare policy, leave provision, job design, and work-family conflict are positive and significant with employee performance. The impact of flexible work policy, welfare policy, leave provision, job design, and work family conflict are positive and significant with employee job commitment.
Recommendations are given on the basis of the findings of the study. The major conclusion of the study is that work life balances have positive impact on employee performance and job commitment. If the Nepalese bank has proper work life balance programs in the form of flexible work policy, welfare policy, leave provision, job design and work family conflict to balance their work and personal life it will tends to increase the employee productivity in the form of employee performance and job commitment.
